CAMHS NDC: Neurodivergent Coping Strategies
We’re pleased to share insights from our recent webinar, “Neurodivergent Coping Strategies: Supporting Autistic and ADHD Children and Young People.” This session was created to help parent carers better understand how neurodivergent children experience everyday challenges and how to support them in developing effective, individualised ways to cope.
Hosted in collaboration between the Oxfordshire Parent Carers Forum (OxPCF) and the CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Conditions (NDC) Team, the webinar featured Laura Agnew (Clinical Lead Nurse, NDC Pathway) and Sarah Wilcock (Occupational Therapist, CAMHS Eating Disorder Team). Together, they explored how emotional regulation, sensory needs, and daily demands impact neurodivergent children — and what families can do to help.
Key Topics Covered:
• Understanding what coping looks like for autistic and ADHD children
• Identifying signs of overwhelm, masking, and burnout
• Exploring sensory regulation and emotional toolkits
• Using energy accounting and co-regulation to prevent exhaustion
• Practical ways to work with schools and build supportive routines
